Setting intention

How do you start your day?  Do you hit snooze 4 times before rolling out of bed, wander sleepily into the shower, get ready for work  and go through the motions of the day, only to “play and repeat” all week long?

OR…

Do you  have a solid morning routine in place to get your day started right?  You get up with purpose and spend time planning your day, writing down (or visualizing!) your goals, reading affirmations and tackling each task with determination and purpose.

When you start your day with intentionality, you are more likely to feel positive, accomplish the goals you set out to accomplish and feel like you are living your best life.

So what the F*%K does that mean????

GOAL SETTING

We all have goals we want to accomplish, but depending on your season in life, you may or may not be as aware of your goals.  When you make time to do some inner work and focus on what is important to you, you are more likely to achieve those goals and feel happier.  Goal setting does not have to be a daunting task!  Here’s a quick exercise to help you set some goals:

Close your eyes right now and focus on your breath.  Now, think of 3 goals that you want to accomplish in the future (can be any time frame…1 week, 1 year, 10 years).  Open your eyes and write them down!  See how easy that was???

Take those 3 goals and put them in a visible place…your journal, write them on your mirror, attach them to your refrigerator.  When you have those goals in front of you daily, you will focus on the steps you need to take to achieve them.  As you accomplish each goal, celebrate your success and replace it with another one!

SASSY AFFIRMATIONS

There is much to be said for the power of positive thinking.  When you think positively, you feel better mentally and physically.  When you think negatively, that impacts you adversely.  Affirmations are a fantastic way to keep positively prevalent in your life.  These don’t have be fancy or complicated, just short sayings that make you feel good.

Write down 5 affirmations that lift your spirits.  Need some help?  Here’s 5 you can use:

Read these affirmations to yourself throughout the day.  Put notes in your purse and in your car.  Make these expressions your passwords.  Text them to your friends so they feel the positivity too!

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE INFLUENCE

We are a product of the people and content we surround ourselves with.  If you think of it, how do you feel when you are with a bunch of girlfriends who are uplifting and inspiring?  You feel pretty damn great!  And what about when you are with friends who dwell on the negative and complain?  They make you feel down and depressed too!  The same goes for content you consume on TV, movies, news and social media.  If you come home every night after work and put on the news, you will likely feel discouraged and disheartened about the world around you.  Or if you scroll through Facebook and only see posts with negative content, complaints and  gripes, that will poison your mind.  Instead, make a conscious decision to consume positive content that makes you feel elated and motivated.  This might mean taking some drastic measures, such as unfollowing people that are toxic in their content, but you will be better off for it.  Take inventory of WHO and WHAT is most influential in your life, and make an intentional and proactive decision to shift toward the positive.

Living your day with intention takes work, but it will provide you with a more peaceful mindset and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day!  Life is too short to just let it happen to you, so take some action and start living your life with intention!
