Sexuality is one of the most unique aspects to being a human.  We are one of the only species that uses sex beyond procreation, but even more than that, sexuality is a HUGE part of our culture.

Sex is prevalent in so many aspects of our day-to-day life…even if you are not “doing it” regularly.  Sex is in the media, sex is in advertising, sex is in education…and YET…there is so much we DON’T KNOW about sex.

Especially as women!  There are so many preconceived ideas, taboos and assumptions made about a woman’s sexuality.  While sex is everywhere we look…it is also whispered about and it makes us giggle and it is NOT usually a topic discussed without that little gleam in your eye and lowered voice…

In an effort to continue to break down our barriers around the topic of all things sex-related, we wanted to share with you two objects that every In Demand Woman should be familiar with so she can increase her own sexual experience…with or without a partner.

We are talking about Yoni Eggs and Ben-Wa Balls.  If you are not familiar with these particular objects, get ready for a lesson you will never want to forget!

IT STARTS WITH THE KEGELS

Female pelvic floor muscles

Kegel exercises refer to strengthening the muscles in your pelvic floor.  They are credited to Arnold Kegel who developed an instrument that measured the strength of the pelvic floor muscles and the exercises to do so [1].  Kegel exercises are beneficial for genital relaxation and helping with urinary incontinence due to weakened muscles (often associated with childbirth, surgical procedures and aging).

To perform the exercises effectively, you must first locate the correct muscles.  One example of how to find them is by pretending to tighten your vagina around a tampon.  Once you locate the correct muscles, contract them for 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions, resting briefly between sets.  By doing this exercise daily, you will strengthen those muscles [2, 3].

Now that you understand more about Kegel exercises, let’s learn about how Yoni Eggs and Ben-wa balls can increase your libido and sexual pleasure…

YONI EGGS

Yoni eggs go by several names, including jade eggs and love eggs.  They are made of semiprecious stones carved into an egg shape and come in a variety of sizes.  Most often they are made from

rose quartz, jade or obsidian.  The word “yoni” comes from the Sanskrit word for female genitalia that means “sacred space”.  Eastern culture has been using yoni eggs for centuries to honor the female and her sexuality [4].

By placing the yoni egg in your vagina, you will feel it when you perform the Kegel exercises mentioned above.  There is much to be said for the energy released by different types of crystals.  For example, if you have a rose quartz yoni egg, it is known for releasing love energy.  You can read more here about the different type of yoni egg options and sizes.

BEN-WA BALLS

Similar to Yoni Eggs, Ben-wa balls are another tool a woman can use to strengthen the muscles in her pelvic floor.  Ben-wa balls are round in shape and often weighted.  They come in a variety of sizes and are made from a variety of materials.  Most commonly, the balls are metal, glass or silicone. Which one you prefer is based on preference and also sustainability (for example…metal and glass ones are easier to clean and likely to last longer than silicone ones) [5].

Ben-wa balls vary by how heavy they are and also if they are connected with a string.  Since you often use two Ben-wa balls at once, the string may be easier for retrieval.  However, it may be preferential for your experience to have them separated so you can use them while having intercourse without concern for the string getting in the way.

HOW YONI EGGS AND BEN-WA BALLS MAKE SEX MORE SASSY

When you strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, you are able to experience orgasms more intensely.  Some women can even orgasm just by squeezing their Ben-wa balls or Yoni Egg!  If you are a woman who seeks orgasm via penetration, strengthening your pelvic floor muscles will likely help you reach this goal [6, 7].

Yoni eggs and Ben-wa balls are part of a self-love practice that allows you to be in touch with your body, your sexuality and your femininity.  There is nothing more beautiful, sacred and sexual than a woman who is comfortable with her own body and ready to explore all the luxurious feelings she can bring to herself.  When you can find this special space and mindset, you are more likely to be able to share it with your partner and therefore enhance your sexual experience together.

We suggest learning how to use your Yoni Egg and Ben-wa balls on your own before experiencing them with your partner.  Make some time just for you, put on some mood music, get out your favorite lube and insert the egg or ball(s).  Once it is inside you, notice how it feels.  Squeeze it.  Release it. Squeeze it.  Close your eyes and see how your body feels.  Learn what works for you and makes you feel peaceful, sexual and energized.  When you are ready, share this experience with your partner and enjoy beautiful sexual energy together!

There are so many wonderful ways we can all explore and experience our sexuality and our goal is to help open your eyes to so many possibilities that will help you live your best life and feel your most SASSY!
